In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States government forced many Native American children to attend Christian, English-speaking boarding schools that forbade Native American languages, traditions, and practices. The practice resulted in tearing apart families, trauma for children in these boarding schools, and a loss of Native American memory and tradition.
