The contract between CUNA Mutual and OPEIU local 39 expired more than a month ago. The local has been meeting with the company since February 7th to work out a new contract. In fact workers began preparing for what they perceived to be a difficult contract challenge since last July.
Labor Radio spoke with Joe Evica, chief steward of the CUNA division of local 39 and a member of the bargaining committee. What are the most important concerns of the membership?
Observers have noted that even if there are no written proposals as yet the fact that the issues are being addressed is a positive sign .In negotiations like this the big financial offers are often dealt with last, after important non-financial issues- like job security are settled.
Listeners can meet CUNA workers and join the union’s informational picket at 10:00 AM; Sunday, May 1 in front of CUNA on Mineral point Rd and join in the picnic afterwards.
Thanks to Joe Evica for this interview.
