What does it take for nerds to have fun? For the Perpetual Notion Machine nerds, that means finding some noteworthy science news and discussing it. This week, PNM nerds Kelly Schwartz, Josh Mitchell, and newcomer Joe Skarlupka ask each other pertinent multiple choice quizzes on a few of them. Such as, a clinical trial on several Ebola medications was arbitrarily terminated. Why? How is Boston planning to handle future massive flooding from climate change? Large underground parking lots to hold the water? More environmental restoration like parks and wetlands? Here’s another one: Do plants have a conscience? Ja or Nej? A bacterium may provide a link between antibiotic resistance and the host’s diet. Which one is it? And finally, why do Russian prison populations seem to have more drug-resistant occurrences to tuberculosis than anywhere else? Perhaps they’re located in the Siberian Gulag?
