Wisconsin legislators are circulating a bipartisan bill to remove the felony conviction for some marijuana possession.
Essentially, the proposed legislation would effectively standardize a patchwork of marijuana laws in Wisconsin. In some communities, like Madison, the legislation would lead to dramatic increase in fines. But in other communities across Wisconsin, the legislation would reduce fines on residents.
The legislation is co-authored by legislators on both sides of the aisle: Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) and Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez, and Senator Kathleen Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) and Representative Shae Sortwell (R-Two Rivers).
WORT reporter Jade Iseri-Ramos spoke with Representative Shae Sortwell (R-Two Rivers), the Republican author on the bill.
