We’re looking for the perfect jazz collector, historian and fan to host on Wednesdays from 2-5 pm. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 6. WORT’s afternoon jazz shows are legendary, and Wednesdays are no exception. The recent tragic loss of longtime host Gary Alderman has left a gap that can never truly be filled, but we’ll do our best to honor and continue his legacy.
Hosting a jazz show on WORT includes picking out music old and new, on-air announcing, running studio equipment and lining up guests for interviews and live sessions. You’d also be involved with our online promotions, reviewing incoming music, and assisting with fundraising and other forms of community engagement.
We’re looking for an individual or team with a strong knowledge of, and passion for, jazz music with an emphasis on swinging mainstream jazz. You can check out some of Gary’s past playlists at this link for some ideas about what we’re looking for. No previous radio experience is necessary, but familiarity with Madison area artists, events and venues is essential!
You can apply online now by downloading and filling out the form below, or stop by the station to pick up an application. The deadline is Friday, September 6 to ensure consideration. Contact Music Director Sybil Augustine at 608-256-2001 for more information. WORT is an equal opportunity organization committed to expanding our diversity and service to the community. We strongly encourage women, people of color and members of other under-represented groups to apply.
