In tonight’s episode of the Perpetual Notion Machine, PNM’er Will Cushman explores the issues of nuclear energy. With the nuclear moratorium now lifted, could nuclear power be a viable clean energy source in Wisconsin? Joining Will is Kelsey Amundson, a recent graduate in nuclear engineering and an advocate of lifting the moratorium. Also joining Will is Elizabeth Ward, the Conservation Programs Coordinator of the John Muir Chapter of the Sierra Club. One of the issues discussed is the storage of spent radioactive material. How and where this material is stored create concerns. But, one of Kelsey’s research projects explored more durable containers for storing this radioactive material.
