Gil Halsted talks to Madeline Uranek from the Leadership Council of Open Doors for Refugees, an organization of volunteers who help resettle Madison’s newcomers from Afghanistan, Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other global trouble spots. She has traveled and worked with the Peace Corps in southern Africa and Central Asia and is the author of How to Make a Life, a story of two decades of shared experiences with a family who arrived in Madison from Tibet and India.
They discuss how refugees and volunteers help make Madison a better place to live for everyone.
