WORT-FM Community Radio, together with the Wisconsin Book Festival, hosted the kick-off event for the national book tour of PEOPLE GET READY, the new book by John Nichols and Robert W. McChesney that looks at the future of technology and how it will impact our way of life.

On Friday, January 19th in the Madison Public Library, about 150 people gathered to hear from the authors about their perspectives on the future of the world as we know it. PEOPLE GET READY reveals that the choices made in the next few years will decide not just how technology is utilized and how economies are organized, but whether democracy will cease to function in any meaningful sense. This book, by two of America’s leading champions of Net Neutrality and efforts to close the digital divide, links an urgent call for action with an outline of what must be done to move from crisis to hope. John Nichols and Robert W. McChesney argue that the United States needs a new economy in which the benefits of revolutionary technologies are shared by everyone, applied to effectively address environmental and social problems, and used to rejuvenate and extend democratic institutions and practices.

WORT received the proceeds from all of the book sales at the event. Thanks again to Bob and John, the Wisconsin Book Festival, the Madison Public Library, and everyone who attended!
The book as still available as a premium for donating to WORT during our current pledge drive. http://www.wortfm.org/donation/people-get-ready/
