Republican leaders in the Wisconsin State senate are pushing to approve a new investigation into how a former government ethics agency handled ethics complaints against fellow republican lawmakers.
This morning, the Associated Press reported that Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald wants the state Department of Justice to take a closer look at what employees of the former Government Accountability Board did during John Doe investigations into Gov. Scott Walker and other Republicans. Specifically, they are looking to punish anyone who may have leaked information to the press.
The Government Accountability Board has since been disbanded.
The call for the new investigation sparked a war of words on Thursday between Republicans and Democrats with Senator Chris Taylor of Madison calling it a “witch hunt.”
WORT Producer Alejandro Alonso Galva spoke with Senator Taylor via phone earlier today.
