The Annie C. Stewart fountain at Vilas Park has been a neighborhood fixture for nearly a century. But Wisconsin winters have taken their toll, and the structure has slowly dilapidated.
Now, community members are weighing restoration of the fountain — something that’s easier said than done, as one estimate puts the cost of full rehabilitation at up to $425,000. The fountain is also located near Ho-Chunk effigy mounds, adding another complex layer to the debate surrounding the structure.
For more on the restoration project, WORT Producer Jonah Chester spoke with Karin Wolf, Arts Program Administrator with the City of Madison.
