Welcome, seekers to the irreverent musical ministry of Rev. Billy, heard the first Friday of the month from 11pm-midnight. Never fear! Billy and his Church of Stop Shopping Choir are here to help us heal and save our earth, our bodies and ourselves with music, humor and information. The Choir describes themselves thusly: “We are a radical performance community based in NYC. We use music, language and creative direct action. We work for the Earth.”
This week’s episode has 2 parts:

Amazon pours 1,000,000 metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each week, and Bezos is the richest person in the world.

The Earth continues her amazing revolution around the sun, and even with the Sixth Extinction so much undescribed life persists. We are sometimes weary of the practical, the technical, even the actual. We close our eyes and dream of the world we want to live in, one where institutions are in service to life and war is finally over. Now we live here, in this moment, on the brink of a new year and there is so much work to do. The institutions are NOT in service to life, and war is NOT finally over. We are birds in the treetops at dawn, exciting the action in the canopy. The above are words from the director of the Church of Stop Shopping, Savitri D. Her annual letter is at the end of today’s show. We are honored to be a part of the WORT family of programs, and wish you all the best in the upcoming year.
