Over the past year, the OIR Group (an organization that does independent police oversight and review) researched the Madison Police Department’s policies, practices, procedures, and culture. The resulting report offers 146 recommendations, all of which are being reviewed by the Madison Police Department Policy & Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee with community input.
On today’s show, guest host Denise DeMarb interviews Keith Findley, co-chair of the ad hoc committee, about the MPD’s response to the OIR Group’s report. They cover the controversy about the $400,000 cost of the study, the benefits of the review process, and the importance of addressing distrust between the community and the police.
