The World Economic Form annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, concluded less than a week ago. According to Jenny Ricks, Global Convenor of the Fight Inequality Alliance, very little was accomplished to address the systemic world economic inequality, where one new billionaire has been created every 30 hours during the COVID pandemic, while others struggle for food and housing. Governments are lowering tax rate on industries at the same time as they are promoting austerity programs for common people. In her recent paper “The Davos Problem: it’s time to #TaxtheRich“, Ricks is encouraging a “global asset registry” to be able track and eliminate tax havens.
