(WORT)–Faculty at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls passed a resolution Wednesday declaring “no confidence” in System President Ray Cross and the UW Board of Regents over their failure to defend robust tenure protections after Governor Scott Walker removed tenure from state statute in last year’s state budget act.
It was the second such no-confidence vote this week, after faculty at UW-Madison overwhelmingly approved an identical resolution Monday.
In March, the Board of Regents approved changes to UW tenure policy that make it easier for administrators to lay off faculty when programs are deemed financially inviable. Administrators and state legislators alike have said professors need to be more accountable, but faculty across the UW System argue the attacks on tenure, together with state funding cuts, are taking a serious toll on their ability to provide a quality education to the state’s residents.
