Rudy Bankston from Memorial High School joins Haywood to talk education, peaceful conflict resolution and to tell us his story.
Rudy Bankson’s biography: In 1995, I was arrested and charged with a murder I did not commit. The following year, I was convicted and sentenced to life. I spent the following 2 decades in prison, self-educating and growing and fighting for my freedom which finally came in 2015 after a new lawyer took on my case and successfully litigated my issued through the court.Without this turn of events I could’ve spent the rest of my life behind bars. Shortly after my release, I relocated to Madison from Milwaukee. At the top of 2016 I started working as the community liaison at Memorial High School. I am also a writer and have published a novel entitled ‘Shed So Many Tears.’ I also write poetry and screenplays (movie scripts) and am currently working on my memoirs.
