When former District 17 alder Gary Halverson stepped down from his position last month, six candidates applied to take over the role of representing Madison’s east side until April of next year.
Last Thursday night, the Common Council interviewed those candidates and came to a decision to name Sabrina Madison, founder of the Progress Center for Black Women, as the district’s new alder.
She will be officially sworn into her role at tomorrow night’s council meeting.
Madison sat down with WORT Producer Nate Wegehaupt to talk about why she decided to join the Common Council, and what issues she will tackle in her time in office.
