Jonah Chester, WORT’s Assistant News Director, will be leaving his position in early November.
He has accepted a full-time reporting position at the Public News Service, where he’ll be reporting on news in four states: Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois. He won’t be a complete stranger to WORT, staying on to produce our Transparency Talk feature and reporting on community stories here in Madison as a volunteer.
Jonah came on board in spring 2020, right when the pandemic was looking to be a threat and WORT was in the midst of shutting down. He got to meet many of our news volunteers virtually. Over the past eighteen months, he was dealt many curveballs. He reported on a surging pandemic, a summer of racial justice protests, a consequential election, an insurrection…everything ranging from neighborhood news to monumental policing changes to goat grazing. While at WORT, he’s won awards from both the Wisconsin Broadcasters’ Association and the Milwaukee Press Club.
WORT wishes Jonah well in his next position! If you’ve enjoyed his stories, drop him a line at jonah@wortfm.org.
This means that WORT is searching for our next Assistant News Director. The application deadline is the end of day on Monday, October 25th. Find details here.
