Marc Lovicott of UW-Madison Police joins 8 O’Clock Buzz host Jonathan Zarov to discuss recent sexual assaults on campus. According to a report by the White House Council on Women and Girls, 1 in 5 women have been sexually assaulted while she is in college and most assaults go unreported.
A new campaign by UW-Madison Police called Tell Us aims to increase the reported number of assault cases.
An interactive online program, developed by UW Police, Dean of Students and UW Health Services called Tonight, addresses the problems of sexual assault. This new program is required for all new UW Madison students. Students watch online videos that highlight potentially dangerous situations, describe strategies for intervening to prevent assault, and encourage students to take responsibility for each other on campus. Students face an academic hold until this coursework is completed.
