The 2021 Posture statement to Congress by U.S. Africa Command (US AFRICOM) states: “we can no longer afford to underestimate the economic opportunity and strategic consequence Africa embodies, and which competitors like China and Russia recognize.” To that end, the U.S. has employed just “under 6000 service members, civilians, and contractors…to advance U.S. interests…”. Netfa Freeman, Organizer of the Pan-African Community Action of the Black Alliance for Peace, talks about the efforts to move the U.S. out of the “new scramble for Africa” where the U.S. has bases in 53 of 54 countries in Africa. October is International Month of Action Against AFRICOM, and visit their website to see how you can take action.
