8 O’Clock Buzz host Jonathan Zarov interviews Carlos Eduardo Gacharná, 100arts Manager.
Carlos Eduardo Gacharná, 100arts Manager, is a Colombian artist and activist currently serving as the arts organizer for 100state. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison, he dedicates his professional practice to what he calls ‘reallocating resources’, leveraging his status within these institutions to create paths so others may advance socially and economically. He has worked with hundreds of youth around the Madison area, as well as a wide variety of multicultural and LGBTQ organizations on his mission to create tangible change through the arts.
“In this society feminine and non-binary individuals are expected to give far more of themselves in all spheres: from the personal to the professional, to the societal and cultural realms. In our own community, the work of feminine and non-binary artists is often undervalued, underrepresented, marginalized, and under-resourced.
By organizing REWOVEN, we hope to open our space so that different intersections of our friends and families can connect. We would like to open dialogue and educate one another about issues surrounding gender identity, expression, and experience; visibility, censorship, and collective understanding. We are all still learning, and we believe we can learn better…together.
The upcoming art events are Sorry Not Sorry and Rewoven. Sorry Not Sorry is art100’s big party happening Friday the 10th (where Loey will be live painting), and Rewoven will be the official gallery exhibition and reception on Sunday the 19th. SNS is the ‘sneak preview party’ for the exhibition.
