November 11, 2018 marks centenary of Poland’s Independence after 123 years of absence from the map of Europe as a result of being partitioned by its neighbors: Russia, Prussia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Poland regained independence through a long, persistent fight (including several Uprisings) and the steadfastness of the Polish people maintaining their culture, language, pride, customs, and beliefs despite living through several generations under a foreign rule, being frequently brutally persecuted.
Guest host Szymon Wozniczka will present patriotic songs, music of Polish villages and cities, music of the 1920’s, and contemporary acoustic music. The program will also branch out to modern folk fusions including Polish reggae, klezmer, Roma, tango, jazz and more.
