On January 13, 2015, Governor Walker delivers his annual State of the State address, and a week later, President Obama delivers the State of the Union. Here on the Buzz, we thought we’d assemble some local luminaries from the labor movement to give you an update on the State of the Unions. It’s been a busy and challenging year for the labor movement in Wisconsin, but it’s also been a year of promise and renewal. In the wake of the State Supreme Court’s ruling on Act 10 last summer, public employee unions have had to reinvent themselves to comply with the new statute. Meanwhile, in the private sector, campaigns continue to organize service sector and retail workers that traditionally have very low unionization. Joining Monday Buzz host Brian Standing on January 12, 2015, were:
- Richard Marx (Local 6000, City of Madison)
- Neil Rainford (AFSCME Council 40)
- Zee Lemke (Starbucks Organizing Committee)
- Richard Kempf (Willy Street Coop Organizing Committee)
