New Madison band Straka & Sphynx play the WORT Underground Stage at the Willy Street Fair starting at 1:10 pm.
Raka Bandyo (guitar) is Straka which is the Slovakian word for magpie. Widely considered one of the most intelligent animals in the world, the straka is one of the only non-mammal species able to recognize itself in a mirror test.
Eric Schinker (bass) is Sphynx, the felus catus, a hairless cat with a wrinkled face. He has big ears and lemon-shaped eyes that give him the expression of a wise and kind alien with a rounded belly that makes him look as if he has recently eaten a large meal.
This group, now a trio with Larry Braun on drums, write songs about bunnies, pancakes, women rights and other topics. Check them out on Sunday, September 16 on the WORT Underground Stage.
