We’ve all read comic books detailing the exploits of superheroes like Batman, the X-Men and Tank Girl. But have you ever heard of Box Brown, the Black Cyclone or Bass Reeves? If you’re thinking those are characters in the latest Marvel or DC epic, guess again. Heroes, certainly, but not supernatural. In fact, they’re not even fictional. “Strange Fruit, Volume I: Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History,” is now available from Fulcrum Books. The book is the brainchild of illustrator and author Joel Christian Gill who will give a reading at A Room of One’s Own on September 29. Joel joined the Buzz on September 22.
