Tune in Thursday to “A John Coltrane Special: Part II” on Strictly Jazz Sounds featuring a complete, uninterrupted playing of A Love Supreme. Coltrane’s birthday (August 23) fell during the Pledge Drive so this is SJS co-host Steve Braunginn’s belated birthday celebration. Featured tracks from John Coltrane’s illustrious career include collaborations with Sonny Rollins and Don Cherry along with the 1963 Newport Jazz Festival recording of “My Favorite Things” with Roy Haynes on drums, as well as “So What” with Miles Davis from the Bootleg Series Crescent and Transition. Tune in to Strictly Jazz Sounds Thursday, October 8 from 2-5 PM on WORT 89.9 FM or at wortfm.org for another afternoon with John Coltrane. This show will also be available on-demand via the website archives until October 22.
