On the Thursday June 4 edition of Strictly Jazz Sounds (2-5PM CDT) host Steve Braunginn has a special double feature. The 3:00 PM hour is a tribute to the surviving member of the first legendary Miles Davis sextet, and NEA Jazz Master, drummer Jimmy Cobb who died on May 24 from lung cancer. He was 91 years old. Featured recordings will encompass his work with Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley and Nat Adderley, and with Cobb as a group leader. At 4:00 PM, SJS will spend a full set remembering George Floyd, beginning with an original poem by Steve Braunginn read in concert with John Coltrane’s tribute to the four girls who died in the Birmingham church bombing on September 15, 1963. Tune in to Strictly Jazz Sounds, Thursday, June 4 at 2:00 CDT on WORT89.9-FM for some of the best in jazz. Stay cool!
