Gil Halsted talks to Bob Queen about Summer 2023 as The Sessions continue to bring artists from around the state, country and the world for our listening and collective community pleasure.
To kick off Summer, the Pursuit of Happiness Sessions begin with a mix of local, national and international talent on Friday, June 16th with The People Brothers Band, The Cash Box Kings with Lee Kanehira from Tokyo on piano and Aaron Lee Tasjan from Nashville – and Bill Roberts on the Chicory Stage.
Saturday, June 17th brings Grupo Balança at 2:30, then Forro Fo Sho, The Handphibians with Otimo Dance, Grupo Rebulu, Grupo Candela and finishing with the renowned Cuban artist, Xiomara Laugart at 8:30. On the Chicory Stage, from noon: Aleman, ark Croft and John Vriesacker, The Sam Ness Trio, The Joel Paterson Quartet and Pupy Costello and the New Hiram Kings from Milwaukee.
To wrap up The Pursuit of Happiness Sunday, June 18th entertainment will begin just after noon and bring The Little Earthquakes, James the Magician, The Lowest Pair, The Periodicals, The Donna Woodall Group and Isaiah Collier and The Chosen Few. On the Chicory Stage: The Charlie Painter Trio, Caravan, Cris Plata and Extra Hot, The Lowest Pair and The Oshima Brothers
Amazing Gambian kora artist and vocalist, Sona Jobarteh, who delighted the audience at the Garver Feed Mill in March will be back in August for an outdoor Festival appearance. Both Jobarteh and Jamaican vocalists, The Viceroys, who will be backed up by Milwaukee and Madison musicians, will be artists in residence and spend time in the community.
