Now more then ever, YOU are the ray of light that is making so much possible at WORT.
The dump button is fixed! It sounds like a small thing, but the dump button stands between WORT and big fines from the FCC for indecency, including the 7 words you can’t say on TV or the radio. Using the dump button erases 8 seconds of naughtiness that might have made it on the air.
We are evaluating a digital music library system. We will continue to hold on to our large vinyl and CD collections, but much of the new music we are receiving is arriving digitally and we must make this music available to our hosts in a convenient format. This will require purchasing a number of software licenses for several computers, including those in the studios, as well as the many hours spent cataloging the music into a format that reflects WORT’s musical diversity. Does WORT play tunes you don’t hear anywhere else? Your donation to the digital library system will enable us to continue this tradition for decades into the future.
We have 25 relatively new computers, courtesy of Edgewood College. Before donating, Edgewood wiped the computers clean. We are looking to put some audio editing software on both these computers and some of our existing computers. Your donation will enable many more volunteer reporters to participate in community radio news! Now, more than ever, we could use the extra eyes on government and corporate America.
We are concerned about the future of WORT. Did you know that most people under 35 do not own a radio, except for the radio in their car? We need to reach these folks via the platforms they use (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook) and let them see what attracted so many of us to WORT years ago: the chance to open our minds to new music and new thoughts and ideas.
We are concerned that the Community Service Grant that we receive from the Center for Public Broadcasting for our many efforts to assist the community will be snatched away and we will have to suddenly come up with 12% of our budget, because politicians want to play political football with community radio.
Stay tuned for our Summer pledge drive and hear about all the things your recent donations have made possible as well as what we can accomplish in the next year, working together.
For over 40 years you have been a ray of light, keeping our lights and tower glowing in the dark and encouraging the change we all want to see. Please celebrate all that you have made possible with us during the Summer Pledge Drive, June 4-17.
