The reason we are able to celebrate disability pride is because 23 years ago today, the rights of persons with disabilities were acknowledged by the U.S. government. Pride festivals have occurred across the U.S. for about 10 years, but on Saturday, July 27th Madison will hold their First Annual Disability Pride Festival.

On July 19, the owner of Grampa’s received a complaint from a patron about a breastfeeding mother at a nearby table. The owner, Gilbert Altschul, then went over to the mother and asked if she would go into the front dining room, which was empty. This incident created an uproar.
