Wrongful Conviction Compensation Bill Gaining Momentum
(WORT) — This week state lawmakers made new headway on legislation that would dramatically increase compensation for people wrongfully convicted and imprisoned. Although historically Wisconsin was the first state to offer compensation to exonerees, its compensation standard is currently the lowest in the nation, at $5,000 per year with a maximum of $25,000.
