The Madison Folk Ball started twenty nine years ago as a rescheduled Christmas Party, and has now grown to become one of the premiere folk dance and music events in the Midwest.
Always volunteer-run, always free and chock full of dance lessons, music, movies and, of course, the legendary folk ball Dance Party on Saturday night. This year, the ball runs from this Friday, January 27th to Sunday, January 29th at their temporary home at Union South.
Joining Brian Standing on The 8 O’Clock Buzz, in the studio are Folk Ball organizers Michael Kuharski of the Madison Folk Society, and WORT’s own Dan Talmo, who hosts the Global Revolutions program on Monday mornings immediately following this program. Also joining by phone is Adam Pogoff, member of the Meerkat Film Collective, which produced the documentary Brasslands, which will screen at the Ball.
