According to Facebook’s own internal research, teenage girls who used Facebook’s Instagram app, suffered from increased concerns about their body image. Internal corporate presentations leaked to the Wall Street Journal stated that “We make body image issues worse in one in three teen girls” and “Thirty two percent of teen girls said that when they felt bad about their bodies, Instagram made them feel worse.” The presentations were based on findings from focus groups, online surveys and diary studies. Joining us today for perspectives on Facebook is Heather Kirkorian, a Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at UW-Madison.
