How did slavery, forced migration and the profitable cotton market shape our economy? How do we deal with that past today and recognize those who have suffered for it? How has it shaped U.S. capitalism today? On Friday, June 19, host Esty Dinur spoke with author Edward Baptist to discuss this and his book “The Half Has Never Been Told.”
Edward Baptist grew up in Durham, North Carolina and currently lives in Ithaca, New York where he is an associate professor of history at Cornell University, with a focus on slavery in the South during the 19th century.
