The Minnesota Nurses Association announced yesterday what is believed to be the first successful defeat of anti-union efforts to remove union representation. The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, backed by dark money from millionaires and billionaires, tries to undermine the power of workers.
Nurses at Mayo Health Clinic in Lake City supported the union by a wide margin. This smaller clinic is not part of the larger unit of 15 thousand nurses who held a 3-day strike.
Shelby Meincke, a nurse at the clinic described how the effort began at Mayo Health Clinic in August.
The Employer held meetings with the nurses, describing the wage they could have without a union.
In the end, the nurses voted to stay in the union, and they were optimistic.
