In his latest book, The New Climate War: The Fight to Take Back Our Planet, climate scientist Michael E. Mann argues that governments and corporations—not just individuals—need to fix the problem they’ve created, and he outlines a plan for pursuing effective climate solutions collectively.
Today, we host Michael E. Mann on the show to talk about this “war” on our future waged by the fossil-fuel industry and others who are moving away from the old strategy of climate denial and instead using a new arsenal of tactics to stall our shift away from an extraction-based economy to renewable energy sources, including doomism.
“The only way it will be too late to act on this crisis is if we listen to those who say it’s too late,” Michael says. “There’s still time to change our legacy.”
Michael E. Mann is a professor of atmospheric science and director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University. He is the author of several books including The Madhouse Effect: How Climate Change Denial Is Threatening Our Planet, Destroying Our Politics, and Driving Us Crazy (Columbia University Press, 2018), in collaboration with Washington Post cartoonist Tom Toles, and most recently The New Climate War: The fight to Take Back Our Planet (Public Affairs, 2021).
