The Poetry for Life call-in show aired on Monday, July 19th at 7 pm.
Gary Glazner, founder of the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project (APP) and the past poet laureate of Madison, Fabu Carter performed classic well-loved poems with callers using a call and response technique. They also created an original poem with the callers by asking open-ended questions around a theme. They spoke about their work using the arts throughout Wisconsin over the past 12 years, to help people living with dementia, and their care partners experience moments of joy and creativity. Listeners learned simple techniques to perform and create poems. The APP has done programming in 36 states and internationally in seven countries.
