Peniel Joseph is a professor of public affairs at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is also founding director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. He is the author of Waiting ‘Til the Midnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power in America (Henry Holt, 2007), Dark Days, Bright Nights: From Black Power to Barack Obama (Civitas Books, 2010), Stokely: A Life (Civitas Books, 2014), and The Sword and the Shield: The Revolutionary Lives of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. (Basic Books, 2020).
