The Tavern League of Wisconsin has been calling on Governor Evers to reopen bars and restaurants throughout the state on May 1, weeks before the extended Safer at Home order is set to end on May 26.
In light of this, today’s episode hones in on the role of alcohol in Wisconsin life, health, and politics. First, we talk to Julia Sherman from the Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project to give an overview of the history of alcohol in Wisconsin and the economic and health tolls of excessive drinking in the state.
Then, Allison Weber, substance use prevention coordinator at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, joins us to introduce the DHS’s new Small Talks campaign to prevent underage drinking in Wisconsin.
Julia Sherman is an expert on alcohol policy and licensing at the Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project. Previously, she worked with the American Medical Association and served as the first national Field Director for the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth.
Allison Weber is a substance use prevention coordinator with the Division of Care and Treatment Services at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
