Sound is our most innate and expressive communication medium. We use it to talk to you over frequency modulated radio waves at 89.9 megahertz and through digital audio over the internet at wortfm.org. We are born making sounds and we can understand spoken language before we can walk. Stuart Fowkes is a sound artist from Oxford, England, and has always been fascinated with the collection of sounds. To share his passion, he created Cities and Memory, a collaborative online archive of original and remixed field recordings from across the globe. Cities and Memory’s latest project is focused on collecting the sounds of protests occurring across the globe. Stuart Fowkes spoke with Monday Buzz host Brian Standing on September 4, 2017.
