Last year, there was a wave of public education strikes throughout the U.S. in places like Los Angeles, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Arizona, Denver, and Oakland. Today on the show, guest Eric Blanc provides context for these strikes and discusses effective labor organizing through the lens of his book Red State Revolt: The Teachers’ Strike Wave and Working-Class Politics.
Eric Blanc is a journalist and a former high school teacher who has done extensive on-the-ground reporting of the American teachers’ strikes of 2018. He is the author of Red State Revolt: The Teachers’ Strike Wave and Working-Class Politics (Verso, 2019). He has appeared on Democracy Now! and has written for The Nation, the Guardian, and Jacobin.
