Madison’s spoken word scene has flourished for a number of years now. Back in 2008, the city hosted the National Poetry Slam, putting it in on the poetry slam map of larger metro areas like Boston, Oakland, and Austin, Texas. Meanwhile, Madison’s local scene continues to thrive, with the venerable Urban Spoken Word performance every third Saturday at Genna’s Lounge and regular poetry open mikes at the Goodman Center, the Central Library and Mother Fool’s Coffeehouse.
