Today is a lecture titled “Life Before Hairspray: Getting Personal in Ancient Rome,” by Janet Stephens. Stephens, a professional hairdresser by training, has won international and scholarly acclaim for her work on the archeology of roman hairdressing. This Saturday from 1 to 3pm is “Busking for Books.” Buskers will perform on corners throughout State Street to raise money for Literacy Network, a local non-profit that offers free classes and tutors to low-literate adults in Dane County. Tonight is a Special Earth Week screening of the film “The New Green Giants,” which looks at a number of organic food companies and shows how they manage or, in some cases, fail to live up to the idealistic dreams of the original movement.
