Tonight is Tropical Forest Funkraiser – a fundraising event for the Ceiba Foundation for Tropical Conservation. The Funkraiser features Tani Diakite and the Afrofunk Allstars, and VO5, with an orchid and tropical plant sale. Attendees can participate in a silent auction, and learn more about Ceiba’s work.There is a cost for this event. This is tonight at 8pm at the High Noon Saloon, 701 East Washington Avenue. Tonight is “Hands Up, Shoot Dead: Blackness, Violence, and the Myth of Officer Friendly” – a lecture by Mariame Kaba, director of Project NIA and cofounder of the Freedom School in Chicago, followed by a performance response from the Bellhops. Part of the Racial Justice and Incarceration Series, this is at 7pm on the UW-Madison campus, Room L160 of the Elvejem Building, 800 University Avenue.
