“WORT Night” was Thursday August 3 at the Central Park Sessions. WORT was broadcasting and streaming live from the concert, in spite of a bit of rain. The live remote began at 5 pm and included all three bands, with DJ The Real Jaguar hosting and spinning between sets from the station. The night’s proceeds from the liquor and raffle ticket sales went to benefit WORT, and we greatly appreciate the support of all the attendees.
This is how the evening broke down:

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Live remote broadcast and stream with Beth Kille.
Kille is a 22-time Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) award-winning artist from Madison, WI who has been cranking out Americana Rock tunes since the turn of the century. From the intimacy of house concerts and coffeehouses, to rockin’ out with her band at summer festivals, her passion for performance shines through in all settings. Her power on stage was recognized in 2011 when she received Artist of the Year honors at the Madison Area Music Awards. She has also been honored twice with the MAMA for Female Vocalist of the Year (’06, ’10) and was nominated for Singer-Songwriter of the Year (’14) by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry.
6:00 pm – 6:30 pm: Set break. WORT DJ The Real Jaguar of Who Cooks For You? spinning music live from the station..
6:30 pm -7:45 pm: Samantha Fish.

Fish is well known for her accomplished blues repetoire but her real love is raw, scrappy rock and roll. Her new album, Chills & Fever (released March 17, 2017) ventures off in a new direction born from traveling to Detroit and joining forces with the Detroit Cobras, a band whose insurgent ethic has made them big names in the Midwest punk/blues scene. Her previous albums include Girls with Guitars, Runaway, Black Wind Howlin’ and Wild Heart.
7:45 pm – 8:30 pm: Set break. WORT DJ The Real Jaguar of Who Cooks For You? spinning music live from the station.

8:30 pm – 9:40 pm: Foxygen and Star Power.
Jonathan Rado and Sam France were only 15 years old when they formed Foxygen. The group has released four albums, a number of self-released EPs, and never fail to impress audiences with insane live shows and the odd behavior of lead singer, France. As Foxygen puts it, “Foxygen is the Big Bang of two combusting minds. It’s the splayed Galaxy of polar geniuses Sam France and Jonathan Rado. It’s a handshake with a knife behind your back. A cosmic, Californian death-game of highway chicken. A sleepless night in a five star hotel. Truth or dare. Foxygen is the risk of pushing your best friend off the ledge just to see if they can fly.” —Right. Are you ready for that?
You can listen to any of the bands or the whole show on our archives right here. Thanks to our regular Thursday evening lineup for giving up their time last week so we could bring you this live music and WORT’s Local News, The Perpetual Notion Machine science show, Radio Literature, and Psychoacoustics will all be back for their regular time slots this Thursday, August 10.
