Over the course of her twenty-five years on air, Friday host Esty Dinur has regularly offered coverage on the Zapatistas, a group of revolutionary Indigenous activists in the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico.
For today’s show, we get updates on the Zapatista movement from journalist Kurt Hackbarth and writer and organizer Hilary Klein, who spent six years in Chiapas, Mexico, working with women’s projects in Zapatista communities.
Kurt Hackbarth is a writer, playwright, and journalist based in Oaxaca. He writes on Mexico for Jacobin Magazine and is the co-founder of the independent media project “MexElects.”
Hilary Klein is a writer, social justice advocate, and community organizer. She is the author of Compañeras: Zapatista Women’s Stories (Seven Stories Press, 2015).
