Wisconsin used to be a progressive stronghold and a laboratory for democracy. Now, it’s a political battleground and a space where corporate interest reigns rather than the voices of everyday voters, argues Matt Rothschild from the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.
Matt Rothschild has been chronicling this change for a long time. Today, he joins Thursday host Allen Ruff to talk about his new book, 12 Ways to Save Democracy in Wisconsin, which includes political prescriptions like campaign finance reform, getting rid of gerrymandering, and addressing structural racism.
Matt Rothschild is executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. He was the senior editor of The Progressive magazine from 1994 to 2014. His latest book is 12 Ways to Save Democracy in Wisconsin (University of Wisconsin Press, 2021).
