On October 9th, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize to the United Nations World Food Program (or WFP), marking the 28th time the Nobel committee has awarded an organization, rather than an individual. The Committee cited the World Food Program’s “efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.” Joining us now to talk about the links between warfare and hunger is Jessica Eise, a post-doctoral researcher at Purdue University and author of the book, How to Feed the World.
