John Kiriakou knows something about the U. S. persecution of whistleblowers — he was imprisoned for 23 months on espionage charges when he exposed the Bush administration’s torture program. But today he’s talking (and writing) about Daniel Hale, who broke the news of civilian deaths by the U. S. drone assassination program and subsequently charged with treason — in fact, an estimated 40% of drone deaths are civilians. Hale was sentenced to a minimum security facility where he could get treatment for PTSD, but the Bureau of Prisons sent him to USP Marion supermax prison, which holds terrorists and the worst prisoners.
