This week, the Board of Estimates approved the $200 million proposal by developer Bob Dunn that will relocate the headquarters of biotech firm Exact Sciences to within blocks of the Capitol Square.
Critics of the plan are concerned about the City of Madison’s unprecedented $67 million investment which includes a $12 million dollar “jobs-based” grant to Exact Sciences.
Supporters of the project say the prospect of a big employer in downtown Madison is a rare opportunity that justifies the hefty city investment.
To better understand this complicated public-private development deal, Dylan Brogan dives into the debate with plan supporter Mayor Paul Soglin and vocal critic, Madison School Board member TJ Mertz.
