Lisa Subeck joined our host Tony Castaneda on the Thursday Aug.1st edition of the 8 O’clock Buzz to talk about United Wisconsin and what they are going to do now?
United Wisconsin was formed around the Recall Walker petition that they then became the main force behind. After that was finished, they had to decide whether to stick around, they did some thinking and talking and decided that they had built a great movement and then it was onto what next?
Lisa stated that there are multitudes of factors as to why the recall didn’t work out even with so many signatures. She did say that money was probably the biggest factor, they had too much. There is too much outside dark money in the elections.
Now Republicans are hoping to bring back the Voter ID into the next legislative session. The Assembly Bill- 225 was an attack on election integrity and voting rights. United Wisconsin spoke out against this bill and then the legislation decided that they should slow down. However, the new bill on Voter ID that will be in the next session will probably mirror AB-225. In that bill there is this piece that says you can take a oath of poverty at the polling station. Lisa Subeck responded to this by stating,”How embarrassing?!” She then spoke from her experience by working at a polling station that there are other reasons that people cannot get an ID besides financially, such as lack of mobility.
